The Custer County Board of County Commissioners meeting covered updates from commissioners, county departments, and public infrastructure projects. Major discussion topics included replacing aging road maintenance equipment, airport emergency preparedness, weed management services, mandatory county employee training, and the transition plan for the retiring Office of Emergency Management director.

Commissioners also discussed wildfire concerns, EMS coverage issues in Wetmore, tourism board restructuring, digitizing county records, and long-term airport improvements including emergency fuel access and runway lighting…

Solar Observing Sessions are always free of charge and require no reservation. Safely enjoy views of solar flares, Sun spots, and other surface detail of the Sun through our dedicated hydrogen-alpha and white-light Solar Telescopes. Experienced solar astronomers will be on hand to answer your questions and to help you identify the surface features of the Sun. Nine of our Solar Sessions coincide with the dates of free, public night-time sessions at the Smokey Jack Observatory. This provides an opportunity to observe the Sun, nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters all on the same day!
Dark Skies of the Wet Mountain Valley is the premier all-volunteer, non-profit organization in the Wet Mountain Valley providing opportunities for visitors and locals to view the wonders of the universe.

Before there was Hamilton, there was 1776 – a musical as erudite as it is witty. “It’s hot as hell in Philadelphia…” and the fractious members of the Continental Congress are fed up with John Adams and his radical ideas about American independence during the broiling summer of 1776. It takes the combined wiles of Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to work on the Congress and push for a vote on a Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.
